As we embarked on the Next Generation Parish Initiative two years ago in an effort to Form Missionary Disciples, join us as we plan and implement this journey of evangelizing all individuals we encounter in our Church and our greater community.
On this journey, we invite you, and each member of our parish and those being called, to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, to be gradually transformed into committed disciples, and to be empowered to joyfully and boldly give witness to how Jesus Christ lives in their hearts, to ignite within our community a fire for Christ.
What is a Disciple?
A Disciple is an active follower of Jesus, sharing their personal faith journey to encourage others to do the same and continually deepen their own personal relationship with our Lord. A disciple recognizes and celebrates those among us that are role models, and support a disciple culture within parish life.
Why is Discipleship important?
Every aspect of our parish community should show our deep commitment to be active disciples, in our devotions, liturgies, socials, and community programs. Through prayer and service, in using the gifts given to us by God we praise Him and will in return receive what is needed to assist individuals in whatever is needed to grow closer to Jesus.
The 7 Dimensions of Discipleship:
1. Prayer
Increase your prayer life and have a regular and ongoing conversation with Jesus.
2. Sacraments/Devotions
No matter how long it's been,
go to confession if you haven't been.
Attend Sunday Mass and receive the Eucharist weekly and daily at Mass if possible. Why?
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves."
Join our nightly prayer group, Gospel Reflections, Ongoing Book Studies, Adoration, and the many devotions offered at our parish or organize a group.
3. Read the Bible and faith inspired texts
Make scripture part of your daily life.
Familiarize yourself with Catholic Teaching and why we the Ten Commandments were given to us by God and how to live the two Great Commandments given to us by Jesus.
Visit our Welcome Center for free resources to take home with you.
4. Witness
Help people prepare and share their Jesus/faith stories, in and outside of our parish.
5. Perform works of Mercy, both Corporal and Spiritual
6. Be Stewards of the earth
7. Live Holy
Examine ways you can become closer to Christ in your regular routines.
