R.C.I.A.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A) is instruction in the Catholic Faith, for those:
- who wish to become Catholic
- who were baptized Catholic, but never raised Catholic, or never received the sacraments of Penance, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation
- baptized in other Christian denominations that wish to become Catholic
- who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith
Join with other adults and fulfill your spiritual life in the Sacraments. Â Classes are in session now. Â Â To register for the R.C.I.A. Program, please call the rectory during office hours at 215-482-4600, or after hours please leave your name and phone number.
Prep Program  (CCD)
Planning for the 2013-2014 Prep Year has begun. Â In order for us to secure instructors for next year, we are asking that you pre-register by contacting us at your earliest convenience by calling Janet Kempf at 215.482.4600 x 13 so that we may make proper arrangements in time for the fall. Â Parents of children currently in PREP should have received a form in the mail that should be returned on Sunday to class. Â
We offer Prep Classes for Kindergarten through Confirmation Level (5th or 6th grade dependent on the child). Â Please contact us and let us know your child’s name, and the level they will be starting in the fall. Â Thank you.
PREP classes are held at The New St. John the Baptist Parish on Sunday mornings immediately following the 9:00 am Mass. Â The class ends at 11:30 am. Â Our program began in 2006 after the Manayunk Catholic Parish Schools closed as an offering for those children in area public schools unable to attend parochial school. Â Now as we experience another time of transition for our Catholic faithful in Manayunk, we encourage you to register your child for our Prep Program.
Regular, punctual attendance at class every Sunday is required for all students. Â All absences must be excused with their teacher by contacting the teacher or sending in a note after an absence, especially for those students receiving sacraments.
It is also expected that Parents with children in the Prep Program make weekly mass atttendance a priority, either the Saturday evening 4:00 pm (Vigil) or Sunday (9:00 am, 11:00 am, 6:00 pm) mass. Not only does it help deepen the understanding of our faith and our relationship with the Lord, but it is an hour during the week we can spend with our families and with God in thanks for his many blessings.
As parents we should remember we are our children’s first teachers, and to pray with our children.  Clicking This link will assist with teaching prayers, and this link to EWTN Kids has Catholic Youth Programming for all ages in learning and living our Catholic Faith.  Prayer is the key to our relationship with God.
There are many questions your children may have about the Catholic Faith. This link from the Baltimore Catechism is a refresher for us and may help:
